Soil Testing Program

Why Soil Testing Matters

Soil testing is one of the most valuable tools for landowners, producers, and gardeners. By understanding what’s in your soil, you can make informed decisions about fertilization, irrigation, and overall land management. A soil test reveals key nutrient levels, pH balance, and potential issues such as salinity or contamination, helping you apply only what’s needed, reduce input costs, and protect water quality. For farmers and ranchers, it ensures healthy crops and productive pastures. Whether you’re managing a few acres or a large operation, soil testing provides the foundation for responsible stewardship and sustainable land use.

The LWRCD provides Soil Testing to help landowners make informed decisions about nutrient, fertilizer and water management, as well as better understand their soil type(s) for planting.

Soil Testing is available year round for citizens in our district for $10.00 a test.

How To Participate:

1. LWRCD provides sample bags and instructions.
2. Take your sample and return it to us, and we’ll ship it to Stuckenholtz Laboratory in Twin Falls, Idaho.
3. We’ll share the results when they are complete.

Individuals can also choose a lab, gather and mail the sample, and pay for the test upfront. They can then bring the receipt to the LWRCD office for a reimbursement.
